WORKING TOGETHER

Working Together

Tattooing is collaborative. The idea, the design and the day itself are all part of the work.

01 / Philosophy

The project comes
first.

Every tattoo starts with a conversation.
You can come to me with a fully developed concept or little more than the beginning of an idea. My job is to understand what you’re trying to make and help figure out the strongest way to make it.
I have opinions about composition, scale, placement and what will work well as a tattoo, but I don’t see the process as handing an idea over to an artist and waiting for the result. Your voice stays active throughout it.

The intention of the project is the true north. Style, composition and technique should all serve it.
Most of my tattoos are designed on the day of the appointment. That gives us room to respond to the body, talk through the idea in person, try things, change our minds and let the design develop.
Reference images are always useful, but they don’t need to be pictures of tattoos. A photograph, object, painting, building, animal, story or memory can be a much better place to begin.

02 / The Studio

One client. One day.

I book one person per day, so the studio is yours for the duration of your appointment.
The space is private and appointment-only. It’s filled with my artwork, books, antiques, natural history and things I’ve accumulated over the years. It feels much more like my working studio than a conventional tattoo shop.
I also don’t tattoo with headphones on. We’re usually spending many hours together and being present for that is important to me. Some days involve a lot of conversation. Others get quiet. Most move naturally between both.
I want you to leave with a tattoo you’re excited about, obviously, but I also care about the experience of making it.

03 / The Process

From booking
to tattoo.

There is a structure to the process, but not a formula. Different tattoos need different approaches, so the way we design changes with the project.

01

Booking
Once your appointment is confirmed, I’ll send everything you need for the day, including studio information, preparation notes and the Client Guide.

02

One week before
We’ll have a short phone call, usually around 10–15 minutes. This gives us a chance to go through the concept, placement, scale, reference images, timing and pricing before you come in.

03

Appointment day
We start by sitting down and going through the project again. Things often shift once we’re in the room together, and that’s part of the process.
From there we start designing. Depending on the tattoo, that might mean drawing directly on the body, working digitally, printing and adjusting stencils, or moving between several of those methods.

04

Tattooing
Once we’re both happy with the design and placement, we tattoo. We’ll stop when we need to, eat, stretch and take the time the project requires.
Because I’ve reserved the whole day for you, there isn’t another appointment waiting behind yours.

Have a project in mind?

You don’t need to have every detail figured out before getting in touch. A starting point is enough.
